UNFORTUNATE LEGACY A Sequel to Unfortunate Demise Synopsis Eighteen years have passed since Anthony "Shine" Swift walked away from the Dodge City Boys to raise his son, AJ. Indianapolis has changed—the old trap houses have been replaced by luxury condos, and the game is played on encrypted apps rather than street corners. AJ Swift is a star athlete with a full scholarship, seemingly destined to be the first in his family to make it out clean. But when David "Money" Keyes is released from prison after nearly two decades, the ghosts of the past return. Money wants his kingdom back, and he sees AJ as the perfect prince to help him reclaim it. As a new war erupts between Money’s old-school tactics and the ruthless "New Blood" led by a grown-up Lil E, AJ finds himself pulled toward the same "Unfortunate Demise" his father nearly died to escape. Chapter One: The Graduation The cheering in the stadium was deafening, but AJ Swift only looked for one face in the crowd. When he spotted his father, Anthony, standing next to Princess, his heart steadied. Anthony wasn’t wearing the flashy jewelry or the designer gear from the old photos AJ had seen hidden in the attic. He was wearing a simple "Proud Dad" t-shirt, his eyes clear and his posture relaxed. "You did it, son," Anthony said later, pulling AJ into a rib-crushing hug. "Four years, full ride to Indiana University. You’re officially the smartest man in this family." "I learned from the best, Pop," AJ joked. But as they walked toward the parking lot, a blacked-out SUV with spinning rims idled near the exit. The window rolled down just an inch. A man with salt-and-pepper hair and eyes that looked like they had seen the bottom of hell stared at Anthony. Anthony’s smile vanished. He stepped in front of AJ, his hand instinctively reaching for a waistband that no longer held a weapon. "Welcome home, Money," Anthony whispered, his voice trembling—not with fear, but with the weight of a life he thought he’d buried. Chapter Two: The King’s Return David "Money" Keyes sat in the back of the SUV, breathing in the scent of expensive leather and air conditioning—a far cry from the stale, recycled air of Michigan City. "The city looks different, don't it?" Man said from the driver’s seat. Man was older now, his face scarred from a decade of holding down the Haughville territory while the DCB boys were gone. "The buildings are different. The people are different," Money replied, his voice a gravelly rasp. "But the hunger? That never changes." Money looked at the folder in his lap. It contained photos of AJ Swift on the basketball court. "Shine thinks he saved him. He thinks he turned a wolf into a sheep." "What’s the move, Boss?" Man asked. Money tucked the photos away. "Lil E has been running this city like a playground. He’s forgotten who built the swings. I need someone the streets won't see coming. I need a face that looks like a hero but carries the blood of a king." "You want the kid," Man realized, a chill running down his spine. "I want the legacy," Money corrected. Chapter Three: The Initiation AJ was supposed to be at a graduation party, but a text from an unknown number had led him to an abandoned warehouse on 24th and New Jersey—the old stomping grounds his father never talked about. Inside, the air was thick with the smell of gasoline and something metallic. A group of young men, no older than AJ, stood in a circle. In the center was Lil E, now a kingpin in his own right, draped in chains that cost more than AJ’s college tuition. "So, this is the prince?" Lil E mocked, pacing around AJ. "He looks soft. Looks like he’s lived a life of milk and honey." "I'm just here to see who's been messaging me," AJ said, his voice firm. Lil E pulled a small, silver pistol from his pocket—the same model Shine used to carry—and held it out to AJ. "Your daddy was a legend. He was the most cold-blooded man in the DCB. But he turned coward. He chose a diaper bag over a duffel bag." AJ felt a surge of heat in his chest. "Don't talk about my father." "Then prove you're different," Lil E hissed, pointing toward a man tied to a chair in the shadows. "Prove that the blood in your veins hasn't turned to water." AJ looked at the gun. He thought of his scholarship, his father’s smile, and the bright future promised to him. Then he thought of the shadows he had been running from his whole life. He reached out and took the weapon. The metal was cold. It felt like home.
